Re-Entry Navigation

The Offender Alumni Association (OAA) is an innovative violence prevention and crime reduction strategy. OAA efforts aim to equip and train Credible Messengers to become neighborhood leaders and experienced violence intervention and prevention specialists. Credible Messengers are re-entry navigators who assist formerly incarcerated individuals to make better and safer decisions, pursue their goals, repair relationships with family and community, and connect to educational, job readiness, and employment opportunities.

OAA Support Forums

Peer to Peer Support is sharing of encouragement and knowledge between individuals with similar life experiences. This is how we coach those who are seeking a different way of life.

Weekly support forums offer:

  • Peer to peer support
    Fellowship
  • Acceptance with no judgment because we have been there and we understand
  • A place to solve mutual dilemmas and issues
  • A place to share known resources
  • Engage family members

The newly returning citizens gain wisdom and networking opportunities from other former prisoners who are already stable, working, and connected with the local community. The process generates a cycle of “offenders helping offenders.” Seasoned members of the group will connect with newcomers, call them on the phone regularly, and invite them back for Monday meetings and Saturday service projects.

Amazing things!

When restored justice impacted people assemble, Amazing Things Happen!

  • They remove any obstacles.
  • They assist each other with overcoming barriers and challenges.
  • They support each other in obtaining the necessary resources and tools to position them to win (ID, navigating Social Security, education, job opportunities, medical and veterans benefits, etc.).
  • They collaborate with city and state leaders to organize community clean-up and outreach events to make amends for the harm caused to neighborhoods.
  • They organize efforts with neighborhood associations, community leaders, residents and law enforcement to implement crime intervention and reduction strategies.
